LEARNING DISABILITIES/DIFFICULTIES CLINIC

Does your child struggle with school? Does he or she dread reading out loud, writing an essay, or tackling a math problem? While every kid has trouble with homework from time to time, if a certain area of learning is consistently problematic, it might indicate a learning disorder. Learning disabilities, or learning disorders, are an umbrella term for a wide variety of learning problems. A learning disability is not a problem with intelligence or motivation. Kids with learning disabilities aren’t lazy or dumb. In fact, most are just as smart as everyone else. Their brains are simply wired differently. This difference affects how they receive and process information.

Simply put, children with learning disabilities or difficulties see, hear, and understand things differently. This can lead to trouble with learning new information and skills, and putting them to use. The most common types of learning disabilities/difficulties involve problems with reading, writing, math, reasoning, listening, and speaking.

Children with learning disabilities/difficulties can, and do, succeed

Children aged between 6 to 14 years of age; who face the following difficulties in various combinations and levels are eligible to enrol in this clinic:

In reading, writing, spelling, math/In relating, recalling and responding to even newly learnt information/In planning and organizing information, have poor memory, short attention span/Poor comprehension skills/Problems in perception, essay writing, problem solving/Other types of learning disabilities involve difficulties with motor skills (movement and coordination), understanding spoken language, distinguishing between sounds, and interpreting visual information.

Co-morbid conditions which also will be taken care of are: anxiety, attention, hyperactivity, stress, behavior.

Benefits of attending this clinic:

The child will start showing improvement in not just academics, but also in communication, socialization, self- esteem/self confidence.

METHODOLOGY:

It involves specialized teaching methodologies, specific learning strategies and interesting learning material that provides the child an easier way to learn and become independent.

It will be conducted in a group of maximum four children of the same difficulty levels by psychologist and special educator. Two sessions per day of one hour each with 15 min break, thrice a week.

Children will be enrolled in the group only after detailed assessment if not done before. If done before kindly bring in the report, then only a minor assessment will be done by the psychologist.

After which a curriculum will be made for the group by the therapists.

Monthly once we will conduct a meeting with parents to discuss the progress of each child.
